Back a little in history, I am thinking to this: when Aptina AR was used in so many cheap but OK dashcams, the OV was the other chipset generally used, but latest time the OV was used in more and more and better and better dashcams also because the resolution was increased so the AR was left behind more and more.

The chinese guys learned that just the Sony name can sell their camera. Will be this a good idea for them? Will the manufacturers start using this chipset if is cheaper than a 5MP Sony IMX, even they know that the Aptina name can not sell so good as the Sony name? I have been eying the new Aptina sensor, look like it will find use in some dashcams it seem to have what is needed for the job. I think i commented or mentioned it here not long ago. Mtz What version of firmware on the S? AS is on latest firmware. That blue tint is in only special situation of dust time. I updated the first post with two new comparisons during day and there you will see the same AS with same firmware without the blue tint.It's a great option to use this camera module!

Btw, imx sensor is more sensitive and price is only 10usd higher. Yes, MIPI module looks attractive and could be a better solution than current one we use. There are some open questions - first of all we should check out if it will work with RMS, but there are two very important ones beside that: is there gain adjustment available, and real camera sensitivity.

While we are now aware vendors specify USB3 IMX camera module does NOT support gain adjustment, and I do not see it specified on the link you provided below, I'm somehow afraid this will be the case with this module as well. Regarding IMX camera sensitivity, it should be compared with IMX using the same lens at the same time looking the same part of the sky. Does anyone have different information on this? I'd be very happy if info coming in from Andrei turns out to be true, meaning we would have a more sensitive camera with gain adjustment at disposal so we may adjust it to the value we find out optimal as it turned out that 60 is somehow best choice for IMX network camera. The limited checking I have done suggests that USB image adjustments may be quite limited.

You must have pictures at same meteor. Most important thing would be to have gain under control, meaning it shall not be chosen automatically by any internal camera procedure or set to some low value. As said, option stated in MIPI module pdf looks like it should allow us to set the gain to some value we find suitable for our purposes.
